Flattening Slabs With A Slab Flattening Jig
If you have tackled a project where you had to surface any large glue up or slab, you may have encountered issues running your project through your planers or drum sander. It seems like the majority of us building projects out of our garages are limited to smaller equipment, which can get pretty frustrating when it comes time to build larger tables.
What I have found works well is using a slab flattening jig and router to surface the larger table tops. There are quite a few options on the market that work well. The slabtech is what I use and absolutely love it, but there are some homemade options that can work as well.
Regardless of what slab flattening system you are using just make sure to use the correct bit. I really like Amana spoilboard bits as they have some larger sizes that just cuts down flattening time (pun intended).
Now back to the shop.
