Your Router Template Setup Guide

Here's your copy of the Router Template Setup Guide. It covers picking the right bit, taping the template down so it stays put, roughing out, depth and passes, feed direction, and then gets specific about handle boards, trays, inlays, and letters, because each one is a different job. Eleven pages, written in our shop.

We're also emailing you the link so you can find it later from the shop.

What the guide assumes you have

  • XFasten double sided template tape. Thin enough that the template sits flat, strong enough that it does not let go mid cut. It is what we use.
  • Router Template Bit Starter Pack: the 3/8" flush trim plunge bit that does most of the work, the 3/16" miniature for tight corners, and a spiral downcut for clearing pockets. The Beginner Pack is just the first two.
  • A sharp chisel. Some of our templates have corners tighter than any bit can reach, and a few paring cuts finish them.

If you are making trays, add the bowl and tray bit. If you are doing bow tie inlays, we sell walnut bow ties already cut to fit the template.

Stuck on a cut? Email a photo of the template, the bit, and what the cut is doing to support@bearhollowsupply.com, or call 1 (800) 920-8066, Monday through Friday, and talk to someone who has run these templates.
